'The Health and Safety Skills kit can be counted as 1/2 credit towards the ASDAN Silver or Gold Awards and the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) at levels 1 and 2. The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness is an activity based qualification which aims to allow young people to develop and demonstrate a range of personal, key and employability skills. It has GCSE equivalence and has the added bonus of allowing centres to enhance their league table position.' Maggie Walker, Head of Award Programmes, ASDAN

Working in association with ASDAN, Skillspath have developed a basic Health and Safety course which is aimed at KS4 pupils prior to their works experience. This course is fully accredited by ASDAN and as such is worth 2 credits towards their COPE qualification.

Health and Safety is such an important issue in today's working environment that it is imperative that we start instilling good practice at an early age.

It is far more effective for all pupils to have a basic understanding of Health and Safety before they enter the workplace than to try and alter poor working practices at a later date.

"Health and safety issues are of paramount importance to today's business community. We need to raise the profile of health and safety and where better to start than in schools. Students need to know about basic health and safety issues before they go on work experience." - Brian Lightowler Chief Executive Business Link
